Breast Reductions & Reconstructions - The Bras That Will Help You Heal!

Welcome to our latest video where we delve into the world of breast reduction surgeries and post-reconstruction care. At Esteem Lingerie, we are dedicated to helping women through every stage of their bra journey, ensuring they have the support they need for a smooth recovery.

Understanding Breast Reduction Surgery

Breast reduction surgery involves the removal of excess breast tissue to alleviate discomfort and achieve a more balanced breast size. This procedure often includes a lift to tighten the skin and reposition the nipples and areola. Some doctors also recommend liposuction under the arms to remove additional breast tissue that extends into this area.

Here in British Columbia, our provincial health care system covers breast reduction surgery, but not the liposuction under the arms. This additional procedure is crucial for many women with large breasts, as it helps achieve a more contoured and comfortable result.

The Anita Osaka Bra: Your Post-Surgery Companion

For those recovering from breast reduction or reconstruction surgery, the right bra can make all the difference. Enter the Anita Osaka Bra, which we highly recommend for several reasons:

  1. Expansive Back Design: This bra features a broad back with venting for heat wicking and moisture control, providing consistent support and reducing swelling.

  2. Double Line of Hooks and Eyes: This allows for adjustable support as you heal and your body changes.

  3. Velcro Shoulder Straps: These adjustable straps are long enough for even tall women, ensuring comfort without relying on the bra strap for support.

  4. Inner Sling: This feature helps keep breast tissue forward, aiding in the reshaping process and providing lateral support.

  5. Seamless Interior: The inner seams are covered by a soft lining to prevent irritation around incisions.

Post-Reconstruction Care

Post-cancer mastectomy reconstruction shares many parallels with breast reduction surgery, particularly concerning incision points. The Anita Osaka Bra is also an excellent choice for post-reconstruction clients. However, the level of structure required may vary depending on your physician's recommendations.

Some women may need a lighter, stretchier bra initially to avoid putting too much pressure on healing incisions. It’s essential to start with one bra and assess your comfort level over the first week to ten days before adding a second bra for rotation.

Bra Care Tips

Proper bra care is crucial during the healing process. Here are some tips to keep in mind:

  • Wash Daily: Since you’ll be wearing the same bra for extended periods, it's equivalent to three days of wear in a 24-hour cycle. Wash your bras daily on a delicate cycle and hang them to dry.

  • Air Out: Allow your breasts to air out for about an hour daily, especially before bed. This helps reduce moisture and bacteria build-up, promoting skin health and healing.

  • Use Vinegar: Add a little vinegar to your rinse water to kill bacteria and keep your bras fresh.

Rebuilding Your Bra Repertoire

Healing from breast reductions and reconstructions can take time, often longer than augmentations. It’s not unusual to take 3-4 months before transitioning back to non-wire bras and up to 6-8 months before comfortably wearing underwire bras. Move at your own pace and prioritize comfort as you rebuild your bra collection.
